The problem
The Great Australian Road Trip is a sustained creative project rather than a short generative exercise. The challenge was to carry voice, continuity and editorial decisions across a 30-part prose work while keeping the result personally meaningful and under human editorial control.
What Mick directed
Mick established the creative direction, shaped the work across its full sequence and retained editorial acceptance. AI tooling supported drafting and production within that direction. The result is not presented as untouched machine output or as code masquerading as a creative project.
Constraints that mattered
- Continuity had to hold across all 30 parts.
- Editorial decisions remained human decisions.
- The personal edition was the defined prose target, not an endlessly moving draft.
- Downstream formats could not be allowed to blur the status of the prose work.
- Private story material and spoilers remain private.
What proved difficult
Long sequences accumulate drift: tone changes, details conflict and local improvements can damage the whole. Closing the prose edition required treating continuity and revision as work across the complete artefact, not simply polishing one section at a time.
How difficulty was addressed
The project used a structured part-by-part production process with explicit review and a bounded personal-edition target. The prose work could therefore be closed while leaving adaptations to proceed as their own projects.
Implemented today
The 30-part personal-edition prose work is closed. A downstream audio adaptation is active through the separate Story Audio production system.
Validation and evidence
Closure here means the defined personal prose edition was completed and accepted within the project’s own process. The manuscript and its detailed production evidence are private, so no public text or repository is linked as proof.
